AMY Smith set a new long course personal best in the final of the 50 metre butterfly but was pipped to a medal at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

The 27-year-old from Kidderminster finished fourth in the final in 26.24 seconds, improving on her previous PB of 26.41s.

England team mate Fran Halsall won the final in a Games record of 25.20 to secure her second gold in Scotland.

It was a strong finish to a day which had ended in disappointment. She missed out on the final of the 100m freestyle final, coming ninth fastest overall during the semi-finals.
