COOKLEY suffered defeat at the hands of local rivals Enville in Worcestershire County League Division Two.

Enville won the toss and invited Cookley to bat and only Paul Thomas (43) offered any real resistance to their attack, as Cookley were skittled for 123 in just 37 overs.

That total was never really going to be enough and their opponents comfortably chased it down in the same number of overs, for the loss of five wickets.

Cookley travel to Feckenham next week in the penultimate game of the season.

Meanwhile, the Seconds saw off Droitwich by four wickets.

A measured 60 from Mike Wood, supported by veteran Lee Shewry (60 not out) and a brisk 32 from skipper Simon Anderson ensured a competitive total of 239 against their rivals.

Droitwich batted well throughout their run chase, but they lost wickets at crucial times and some miserly bowling from Ian Roberts, coupled with Anderson’s 4-25, meant that Droitwich eventually finished 17 runs short of the target for the loss of eight wickets.

Cookley’s second host Evesham on Saturday in the win/lose format.
