DIRECTOR of rugby Phil Knowles has warned Kidderminster Carolians’ players they cannot lose concentration for Saturday’s derby at Bridgnorth.

KCs face their first big test of the season in the Midlands Division Two West (North) with the Shropshire side among the favourites to win the league.

But the Marlpool Lane outfit will be full of confidence after winning their first two games of the season.

On Saturday they romped to a 53-17 win over Veseyans.

Despite the large scoreline, Knowles felt KCs produced a Jekyll and Hyde display.

He said: “We scored a nice try in the first-half and then switched off.

“We were awful in the first-half and the coaches gave them a rollicking at half-time.

“We played some great rugby in the second-half and Ben Turner made a difference when he came on as a hooker.

“But we can’t afford to lose concentration against Bridgnorth, as they are a very good team.

“They are favourites for Saturday and the league but on our day we can give them a good game.”

KCs had taken the lead when full back Freddie Morgan touched down and Chris Pinner added the extras.

But Veseyans went into half-time 10-7 ahead after two tries.

KCs roared back in the second period and Rob Delahay drove over to put the home team ahead again.

Rob Phillips then crashed over and Pinner converted.

Delahay bagged a second try a KCs powered into a 24-10 lead.

But they doubled that score in an incredible eight minute period.

Veseyans saw several raids repelled, Pinner turned into attack and after some fluid phases Phillips outran the tiring cover for a fine try which was then also converted.

Mike Protheroe touched down after a good run by Jordan Hatch and Pinner added the extras.

Laurence Hughes then sped straight to the try line without a hand being laid on him to score and out the home side 48-10 ahead.

Stunned Veseyans searched for a score and some sloppy tackling let them in for a converted consolation third try, but KC’s had the last word when Pinner touched down.

Hatch is a doubt for Saturday’s clash with a leg injury but George Morgan is expected to be available after recovering from a knock.

Knowle added: “Bridgnorth are known for their flying wingers so we will have to be wary of them but it will be great to see George back.”
