STOURPORT Ladies recorded their first point of the season in the Investec Conference West with a 2-2 draw at Bristol Firebrands.

Sarah Cavendish opened the scoring from a penalty corner before Hannah almost doubled the lead when she scored what she thought was her first goal of the season, only for the umpire to disallow it after spotting the use of a foot in the ensuing goalmouth scramble.

Bristol Firebrands were then pressurising the Stourport goal and drew level when Pippa Barnes deflected home a penalty corner, in the 25th minute, to bring the scores level before the break.

Bristol began the second half strongly but Stourport weathered the storm and then regained the lead when Nicola Moss deflected in Katie Miller’s 49th minute shot.

The home side increased the pressure without creating any clear cut chances and, just as it seemed that the visitors had secured their first win of the season, a controversial last-minute penalty corner was awarded, which Lizzie Gittens converted to rescue a draw for Bristol.

The Stourport Ladies go to Olton and West Warwickshire this Saturday.

The Seconds recorded a 5-1 win over Newark in the Midlands Division Two.

Jodi Vincent bagged a brace, while Amy Miller, Holly Reding and Fran Moss also hit the back of the net.

The Thirds went down 3-2 to Harborne in Worcestershire Division One, despite a second-half fightback.

The Wyre Forest side had been trailing 2-0 at the break only for Stacey Jones and Emma Pollack to draw them level. But the Birmingham opponents bagged a third.

Bethany Neilson and Pauline Knott were on target as the Fourths drew 2-2 with Droitwich, while the Fifths drew 1-1 with Bournville Seconds, with Bianca Homer on target for Stourport.
