THE wait for Stourport Ladies’ first win of the season in the Investec Conference West goes on, after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Cheltenham at home.

Stourport had taken the lead against one of their fellow strugglers only to be pegged back late on.

After eight games, the Wyre Forest side are second from bottom with three draws and five defeats.

Only one point separated the sides towards the bottom of the table before the game and neither side could afford to be on the wrong end of the result.

Stourport were on top for the first 25 minutes of the game but Cheltenham finished the half the stronger and were unlucky not to win a penalty stroke.

The hosts began the second half strongly and after some good attacking play down the right, Leanne Bennett’s turn and shot in the circle fired Stourport into a 52nd minute lead.

But Cheltenham again finished the half the stronger and after winning several penalty corners, Rachel Owen’s strike levelled the scores to secure a point for the visitors and maintain the status quo in the league table.

Stourport entertain mid-table Oxford Hawks on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the ladies seconds were unlucky to lose 2-0 to Leek in what had been an even Midland Division Two match.

In the Worcestershire Division Two, the fourths saw off Bromsgrove thirds 3-1, with goals coming from Pauline Knott and a brace from Karen McIntyre.

The fifths slipped to a 3-1 defeat to Kidderminster.

With both sides looking to record their first victory in the league this season, it was Kidderminster who came out of the blocks the quicker, and their sharp, quick passing paid dividends in the opening stages as they scored two early goals.

Kidderminster’s pressure paid off further, as they increased their lead.

Stourport hit back before the half-time break through Ellie Childs.
