STOURPORT Men recorded a fifth win of the season by edging out Old Silhillians 5-4, to rise to the top spot in Midlands Division One.

They produced a battling display, coming from a goal down to make it five victories in a row.

Goals for Chris Hoare, Phil Baldwin and Dan Hurley fired the away team into a 3-1 lead by half-time.

Despite being in the bottom half of the table, Old Sils showed some good, quick and skilful approach work and should take points from their upcoming opposition.

However, Stourport increased their lead after the interval through another Baldwin goal and a first league effort for 16-year-old Simon Claris.

Old Sils wouldn’t lie down though, and pulled it back to 5-4 with minutes remaining on the clock. Stourport held out to keep the three points, despite being awarded two yellow cards for separate offences.

The two sides meet again this coming Sunday when the first XI have another trip to Old Sils for a Second Round tie in the HA Trophy.

Before that though they welcome Stone to The Kingsway on Saturday (1.45pm start) in a top of the table clash.

Stourport will have to be at their best for this encounter as they will be up against the Staffordshire side’s player/coach Rob Smith, who is an ex-Cannock and Great Britain player.

The seconds were also among the goals as they defeated Warwick 5-3.

Matt Derbyshire had fired Stourport ahead but the visitors pulled the scores back to 1-1 by half-time. After the break, Warwick stormed ahead with two goals in five minutes, only for Stourport to respond emphatically with four goals, all of which were scored from short corners, and came from Rob Lashford and Dan Drew.

The fourths went down 5-2 at home to Worcester.

Despite creating lots of chances, only Lee Slip was able to get his name on the scoresheet, with a brace, while Ollie Sobey was player of the match.
