WYRE Forest recognised another fine season at their annual club dinner and presentation evening at the Gainsborough House Hotel last Saturday.

The evening was an opportunity to applaud the riders, who had put in some excellent performances throughout a long summer season.

However, it was an early night for Steve Vanes, who was racing the following day in the West Midlands Cyclo Cross League.

Promoted by Birmingham/Midland CC and run over undulating grass land at Blackwell Court near Bromsgrove, Vanes made his usual conservative start, but worked his way up to sixth place after the first few laps, a position he held going into the final circuit.

Unfortunately, a group of three riders were working together and gradually closed the gap, with Vanes losing out in the sprint for the line to eventually finish ninth overall and eighth senior, from a total of 127 finishers.

Wyre Forest trophy winners: Hill Climb – Steve Vanes; Handicap club time trial – Brad Bradley; Vets club time trial – Justin Walters; Ladies club time trial – Lucy Walters; Scratch club time trial – Justin Walters; Dean Harrison Shield – Sam Cooper; Vets road race – Ken Bradbury; Club road race – Shaun Hickinbottom; 10-mile time trial – Steve Vanes; 25-mile time trial – Justin Walters; 50-mile time trial – Andy Convery; 100-mile time trial – Dave Meacham; Best all rounder – Dave Meacham; Mike Nicol Shield – Brian Clarke.
