STOURPORT Ladies ended their long wait for their first win of the season in the Investec Conference West as they saw off Oxford Hawks 2-1 at home.

After Oxford had dominated the opening period, Takara Haines broke the deadlock from a short corner for the visitors.

Rene Johnson levelled the scores for Stourport and Lora Symond scored the winner with three minutes of the match left.

Stourport travel to Swansea next Saturday having moved two places up the table into eighth.

l Meanwhile, Kidderminster Ladies won a thrilling encounter against local rivals Droitwich 3-2 in Worcestershire Division Two.

Spa had taken the lead but equalised through Steph Collins.

The match was evenly balanced until an injury reduced Droitwich to ten players and Kidderminster capitalised on the advantage, taking the lead through Jodie Smith.

Droitwich rallied and pressed hard only to be prevented from scoring by some outstanding saves by Kidderminster’s goalkeeper Rebecca Hemmings but were eventually rewarded with an equaliser with less than ten minutes to go.

The game looked likely to end as a draw but the Wyre Forest side increased the pressure and Beth Evans scored the winner with less than two minutes to go.

l Stourport Men tightened their grip at the top of Midlands Division One with a 3-1 win over title rivals Stone on Saturday.

Dan Petrie fired Stour ahead, only for Stone to take advantage of an error to make it 1-1.

Goalkeeper Alex Cook produced a man-of-the-match display with a host of saves, while Petrie bagged a second to fire the hosts into the lead.

Alex Cavendish was yellow carded by coach and former GB man Kali Takher made an impressive 15-minute cameo as Chris Hill added a third.

In the National Trophy, Stourpor hammered Old Sils 8-2.
