GIFTED Kidderminster runner William Richardson confirmed he is one of the country’s brightest prospects with a dominant display at the Midlands Cross Country Championships.

The 16-year-old lead from start to finish in the under-17s age category.

Richardson, who is a member of Birchfield Harriers, was one of the leading lights for the Birmingham-based club.

Overall, Birchfield’s U17 men were third with Ben Boulter (7th), Reis Brooke (18th) and Nathan Bailey (54th).

His powerful display in Wollaton Park in Nottingham was hot on the heels of his victory at the Worcestershire Championships.

He produced the performance of the day in the combined U17 and U20 race, coming in first over a minute ahead of the next finisher.

l Meanwhile, members from Kidderminster and Stourport AC have been in cross country action in January.

In the Senior Men’s Match at Droitwich, Brian Currier was 89th, Ron Lymmes 172nd and Mark Hawkins 121st.

Meanwhile at the West Midland Junior Cross Country League held at Burbage Common Leicestershire a number of KSAC runners put in some excellent performances.

The best run of the day was by Deanna Clarke in the U13 girls race who finished fourth in a field of 130.

Libby Hawkswell finished 13th out of 121 in the U11 girls race with several other runners also improving their personal bests.
