STOURPORT Ladies seconds are now joint top of Midland Division Two after three first-half goals put them on the way to a 4-0 victory over Newark at The Kingsway pitches last weekend.

The first two goals came from corners and were followed by two from open play, with a brace for Kirsty Imm, as well as strikes by Karen Robinson and Liz Warne.

The thirds bounced back from last weekend’s 6-1 defeat to Bromsgrove with a 5-1 win over Tenbury in Worcestershire Division One.

There was a positive approach from the team who created good opportunties and caplialised on them to score. The teams were level at 1-1 at the break but an excellent team performance from Stourport saw them battle on to win until the final whistle.

Keely Hawkes defended well, while some good forward play by Emma Pollock and Lena Sophie-Ivens deserves special mention.

Pollock and Sophie-Iven both scored braces, and Elenanor Johnson scored a single goal just after she had come on to the pitch.

Having had fixtures called off recently due to frozen pitches, Stourport Sixths were hoping that they would at last be able to get back into action this weekend.

It was not the cold weather that beat them this time but a waterlogged pitch at Worcester University which forced their game against Worcester fourths off.

The fifths won 3-1 at Worcester thirds in Division Three, with Rosie Connolly and Julie Yapp on target.

The Men’s firsts saw their game against Chesterfield fall victim to the wet weather, while the seconds got the better of Bournville 2-1.

Adam Leek’s double ensured Stour remain undefeated at home.

This weekend, the senior men have a double header versus Burton.

On Saturday they entertain the Derbyshire-based outfit at the Kingsway (2pm ko).

They then travel to Burton the following day on Sunday to play them in the third round of the England Hockey Trophy.
