SAMURAI hit a winning streak at the Midlands Open Schools Championships, with all eight of their players in the medals.

The Wyre Forest club scooped four golds as they stormed to first place overall on the medals table.

James Hemer had moved up to the 34 kilogram category but produced a controlled display to score some superb maximum point counter throws on his way to the gold medal.

His older brother Matt looked really sharp in the under-42kg group.

Three maximum-point wins out of three saw him into the semi-final, where he dictated the contest to gain a place in the final, and then threw his opponent in the final with some very good skill to take the gold.

Jack Walker was the other Samurai boy competing and he kept up the 100 per cent record for the club by winning the under 50kg gold medal.

Lauren Fletcher was first on for the girls and three very good wins with some spectacular maximum point throws saw her gain the bronze after losing her semi-final. Ellie Arnull also had two good wins on her way to the bronze.

Hetty Tinsdale and Olivia Turner met in the final of their weight group.

Tinsdale was odds-on favourite to win and so it proved, but not before her club-mate had given her quite a few difficulties, so this ended with Samurai taking both gold and silver.

Becky Hobby was the last Samurai player to compete and reached the semi-final before losing, but then came back well to win the bronze medal.
