STOURPORT’S promotion party was put on hold after they were held to a 4-4 draw by mid-table Telford and Wrekin.

The Kingsway club found themselves two down in the opening few minutes and were forced into producing a stirring fight back.

Despite having scoring opportunities themselves the home side were unable to convert those chances as both defences looked likely to concede more goals in an open game.

Stourport eventually found the breakthrough in the 15th minute with a Chris Hill goal .

But the two-goal cushion was restored shortly after.

Just before the break David Knott pegged the lead back to a single goal with a well-taken rasping shot past the keeper.

A lack of discipline from both sides midway into the second half meant that umpires were under pressure.

And a passage of play saw a total of five yellow cards shown in a game that was by no means a dirty match.

Dan Petrie levelled things up on 39 minutes for Stourport only for Telford to regain the advantage shortly afterwards.

Phil Baldwin ensured a draw when he scored from a short corner.

This will be a game that the Kingsway side will want to put behind them and come out guns blazing on Saturday against Old Halesonians (2pm start), with victory sealing a return to the Midlands Premier.
