KIDDERMINSTER and Stourport AC’s very own throwing star Katie Lambert will be one of the leading lights when the club hosts an international hammer throwing competition on Sunday, April 12.

Lambert is ranked number one in the under-17s for this year after some fine displays, while her brother Jack, who competes at under-15s level, is currently fifth in the national standings.

She is set to stage an attempt to break the UK record of 59.55m from 1997 and further her chances of getting selected for Team GB for the World Youth Games, in Cali in Colombia in July this year.

The club will be welcoming Irish thrower Brendan O’Donnell (Lifford A.C.) who is an U17s athlete and currently ranked number one in Ireland with a best throw of 56.17m with a five kilogram hammer.

Also taking part is Jade Williams (from Shercock AC/Wrexham), who tops Ireland’s U15s and is ranked 1 in Ireland and sixth in the UK with a 3km hammer.

Other KSAC competitors Molly Walsh, Phoebe Baggott and Lynette McKeown will also be testing their mettle.

Following the hammer throwing action, which starts at 10am, the club are also staging an open meeting (noon start), which is only open to those who are invited to attend.
