BEWDLEY Town drew another blank when their Saturday fixture with Shifnal Town fell victim to the weather.

Manager Phil Mullen admitted: “I was 99 per cent sure the game was going to be called off, following all the rain we had last Friday. The sun can’t get to the bad area of the pitch because of the shade from the grass bank.”

As a result, Bewdley took no chances and switched this week’s proposed contest with Willenhall Town to Stourport Swifts’ Walshes Meadow ground.

But Mullen is much more optimistic that this Saturday’s home contest with Bilston Town Community and the following Tuesday’s home clash with Dudley Town will go ahead at Ribbesford Meadow as planned.

Mullen added: “With nine games still remaining, it means we will be playing twice a week from now on – but we can cope with that. However I did lose half the side ahead of the Willenhall game to midweek Sunday football – but that’s another story!”

l THE Football Conference will be renamed The Vanarama National League next season.

As part of the revamp, the league is set to launch a new broadcasting company, NLTV, which will be dedicated to a broadcasting channel focusing solely on the 68 member clubs.

Incoming league chairman Brian Barwick said: “I am delighted to be joining at this vibrant time with this exciting new branding. It offers so much to our existing partners while at the same time opening up potential new opportunities. I look forward to steering this great competition to new levels of awareness and visibility.”
