FOOTBALL: It's the end of an era for Chainwire FC.

The club, which won promotion to the Kidderminster and District League Sunday Premier Division after their 3-1 win over Darby End Athletic, will move to a new home next season at Walshes Meadow and become Stourport Swifts Sunday team.

Formed as the Parsons Chain works team in 1972, the ground and clubhouse were sold to Brintons in 1994, and four years ago to Stourbridge College. The clubhouse closed to make way for classrooms.

The likes of Kidderminster Harriers legends Phil Mullen and Okker Davies, with former Bromsgrove Rovers record goalscorer Chris Hank and England international Geoff Thomas have played for the club.

After relegation from Division One in 1993, Chainwire bounced back to win promotion two years later, and apart from a brief spell in the Premier Division in 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons, and two years in Division Twwo in 2008-09 and 2009-10 they spent their entire existence in Division One.

The club won the Worcester Infirmary Cup in 2002, beating Cradley Olympic on penalties 5-4 after a 0 – 0 draw, and the Roy Marchant Cup in 2010, beating Areley 3-2 after extra time.

Nigel Wager remains their all-time top goalscorer with over 200 goals in 25 years at the club.
