TENNIS: Bewdley Tennis Club has enjoyed a busy few months including Alison Rosoman and Wendy Cook clinching the Winter Ladies Doubles.

The pair defeated a spirited Nikki Guest and Kim Salt who in their first final appearance pushed the winners all the way with a close fought tie break in the second set.

Alison also reached the Winter Mixed Doubles final with Mark Blowers but the duo had to concede to Audrey Bradley and Dave Meek half way through the final due to injury.

Meanwhile, in the traditional start of season tournament Jason Curtis and Debbie Lambert beat the veteran pairing of Terry Round and Tine Sylvester.

The Stourport Road club, which celebrated its 90th anniversary last year, held its long standing annual Ladies Doubles Open at the end of May, with 24 couples competing.

This year’s winners were Wall Heath couple Jean Brayshay and Jo Birch who beat Anita Shinton and Caroline Trinham from Wolverhampton.

The Plate competition was won by Bewdley pairing Nikki Guest and Kim Salt who beat another home couple Julia Baylis and Lyn Price.

Three of the club’s 16 teams gained promotion at the end of the Herefordshire & Worcester Winter Leagues.

The Men’s A, captained by Paul Bennett, earned a return to Division One while the men’s C, under captain Jon Carter, and Ladies D, captained by Nikki Guest, also won their respective divisions and go up.
