STOURPORT were the top club as they clinched the Victor Ludorum at Hereford Regatta.

With qualification to Henley Royal Regatta around the corner, Stourport’s visit to Hereford would set the benchmark against other clubs in the region.

The Wyre Forest club didn’t disappoint, with a blistering performance in the Junior and Master events being topped off by securing the Victor Ludorum trophy as the most successful club at the Regatta, with 15 wins throughout the weekend.

Most memorable was the first win for the Women’s 4+ novices of Sara Peace, Jo Scattergood, Denise White, Hilary Little and expertly coxed by Nikki Holbeach.

With close racing through the semi-finals, their win in the final over the 500 metre course was by a boat length against Cheltenham Ladies College.

Racing against Evesham, the Junior 13 Quad of Amie Furminger-Burrows, Lauren Rhodes, Katie Sweeney, Julia Miller and impressively coxed by Maddie Hill, notched up their first win by half a length in a thrilling final, roared on by hundreds on the River Severn bank side.

With the racing over, Dominic O'Loghlin, the Worcester RC Captain, presented the winners with special bone china tankards in a shower of champagne.
