COOKLEY’S record-breaking season in Worcestershire Division Two continued with another emphatic batting display against Evesham.
Skipper Paul Thomas led the way with 83, Al Roden 56 and veteran Ad Nicholls 40 not out, to post 295-5. Evesham made a credible attempt but finished 26 runs short, thanks to wily super veteran Iain Roberts (4-33) and Kiwi Kheinan Morrissey’s 3-46. The 1st XI remain second in Division 2.
Ben Quinlan became the first Cookley player to score back-to-back centuries since the 1970s with a fine 106 not out, as the seconds lost to Pershore.
Mike Wood enjoyed a long-awaited return to form with 48 and Stuart Nicholls chipped in with a rapid 41 not out. However, Pershore demonstrated why they are top of the table, winning by four wickets in the last over.
Cookley thirds enjoyed only their second win of the season with some impressive batting, with Jasper Smith, 15, scoring his first 50 for the club with a belligerent 56 not out. Tom Mayall (3-12) ensured a welcome victory by 78 runs.
