TENNIS: Alison Rosoman proved as hot as the weather as she served up a Bewdley Tennis Club double at the weekend.

She shone in glorious conditions by defeating Lucy Odell in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) to pick up the fourth singles in her Bewdley career and then teamed up with Mandy Sylvester to take the doubles.

In the ladies’ doubles, the duo saw off the grandmother and granddaughter pairing of Tine and Nancy Sylvester, emerging 6-3, 6-2 victors.

In the men’s singles, promising teenager Tom Welsh, who is national ranked for his age group, clinched the title for a second successive year, defeating last year’s finalist Alfie Sylvester 6-0, 6-4.

Sylvester also tasted defeat in the President’s Cup as he and Tine Sylvester went down in three tough sets to Dawn Gumbley and Jack Henfield 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.

Dave Meek was the toast of the veterans, winning the singles for a fourth time and lifting the veterans mixed.

Meek beat Julian Beasley 6-3, 6-2 and then joined forces with Ros Youngs to defeat Nat and Mandy Sylvester 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, saving two match points in the process.

Another three-setter decided the handicap mixed doubles, with Karen Vernon and Terry Round beating Jan Hudson and Jim Sylvester 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 in a championship tie-breaker.
