WHAT a weekend it was for the 2015 Club Championships at Cleobury Mortimer.

The club was delighted to see a packed field of golfers all eager to get their hands on the most important trophy within the club.

The championships was played over two days and used the the Foxes Run and Deer Park courses.

The greens staff had got the course looking superb with the greens quick and the pins tucked away. It was always going to be a tightly contested tournament.

After day one John Swithenby led the way in the nett with a two under 67 closely followed by Steve Scrace who had a 68. However, there was a whole host of players just behind who knew a good second day would throw them right in the mix.

In the gross, Charlie Edwards shot a very impressive 75, Tom Pain shot a 74 to also be in contention but day one belonged to Shaun Raybould. Despite bogeying the last, he shot a 70 to take a four-shot lead into day two.

The second day was played over the Badgers Sett and Deer Park courses in near perfect conditions were on show with glorious sunshine beating down onto the golf course.

Despite this the scoring was far from outstanding with the pressure getting to many.

Guy Taylor went under the radar with a nett 69 which propelled him into third place overall.

Swithenby followed up his opening round with a 73 to finish level for the tournament.

He was just pipped to his first net club championships by Phil Lau, who recorded the lowest gross of the day to also finish tied with John – but a superior second day gave him the trophy on count back.

In the gross score section, Charlie Edwards fell away meaning it was between Tom Pain and Sean Raybould.

After 27 holes, Raybould still had his four-shot lead and broke away on Deer Park to eventually win by six from Pain.

Lau sad: "It is very unexpected. The gross was the one I was after but Shaun is a great champion. I won this nine years ago and am delighted to win it once again."

Raybould added: "‘I have only been at the club since April and have been a member at many courses in the UK and abroad. Cleobury has been by far the most welcoming and friendly club out of any other. The course was great and I would also like to thank my playing partners from the two days for their great company."

Below are the latest results from Kidderminster Golf Club: Men’s Open Autumn Pairs (BB Stableford) Saturday saw 168 golfers take part in the latest open event. The course was in superb condition for what turned out to be a great days golfing.
