THE junior section at Cleobury Mortimer were celebrating after winning the Bob Osborn Trophy for the first time.

Bob Osborn was one of the key figures when the West Midlands junior section was formed, since his passing this competition sees his memory live on.

Golf courses from around the West Midlands enter three player from their club and 18 holes of stroke play is then played and the best two scores out of the three give an aggregate total, the lowest score wins.

Josh Rowbotham led the way for Cleobury with a gross 77 (nett 71) which put Cleobury in a great position.

The pacesetter knew if Tom Rawlings or Alex Barnes could shoot under their handicaps Cleobury would have a real chance of winning.

Rawlings certainly stepped up, not only did he shoot under his handicap, he shot way under with an incredible nett 61, which helped Cleobury won the trophy for the first time.

Director of Golf Dave Pain said: “This win is a fantastic result for Cleobury against some of the big hitters in the West Midlands.

“A big thank you goes to Scott Severn for his inspired team selection. Josh, Alex and Tom are a credit to the club.

“A special mention must also go to Tom who won the best overall nett score with his stunning 61.”
