Harborne 0, Kidderminster Carolians 40

THREE tries in each half against rock bottom Harborne saw Kidderminster Carolians record a fourth bonus-point win of the season in the Midlands Division Two West (North).

KCs dominated from the start and opened the scoring when Layton Wilkinson went over and his try was well-converted by scrum-half Freddie Morgan for a 7-0 lead after only seven minutes.

Andy McLellan then bagged a try, converted by Morgan, after good interplay between forwards and backs.

Midway through the half a tackle by fly half George Morgan ran clear down the left touchline and then under the posts to make the conversion a formality for his brother Freddie, increasing KCs’ lead to 21-0.

Harborne continued to work hard and enjoyed periods of decent possession, but always in areas of the pitch where they could not hurt the well-organised visitors.

Just four minutes into the second period, number ten Morgan darted over from a smartly-taken tap penalty for the bonus-point try.

Eight minutes later a quickly-taken throw and a penetrating kick by McLellan again caught Harborne’s defence napping as Alex Baldwin went over for a fifth try.

Once again Morgan added the extras as KCs took a 33-0 lead.

Harborne at last got a sniff of the try line when their right wing was tackled without the ball while trying to chase his own kick, but the brief threat fizzled out.

After a pretty flat 15 minutes when nothing very much happened, Kidderminster sparked back to life with a surge from a lineout on halfway which took play into Harborne’s 22.

Freddie Morgan charged down an attempted clearance kick to put the hosts in more trouble and Rigsby took advantage of their disarray to power over for another try, which Morgan converted with his fifth successful kick out of six.

Carolians were reduced to 13 men because of injuries late on, but they had done enough to win comfortably.

They now face a challenging month with successive fixtures against the three sides above them, starting with Wolverhampton at home on Saturday (2.15pm kick-off).
