THE clock is ticking on the vote for The Shuttle’s Sports Personality of the year competition.

The deadline for our online ballot is midnight on Saturday.

Swimmer Eleanor Bainbridge leads the poll but there’s still time for Duncan Gwilliam, Claire Cashmore, Olivia Turner or William Richardson to win it.

Stourport Boat Club rower Gwilliam has certainly been in oar-some form after he clinched two gold medals at the World Rowing Masters in Belgium.

Samurai Judo Club member Turner, 14, has had an exceptional year.

The teenager, who has autism, is the reigning European and British Schools Special Needs Champion and has also been selected to represent England in the mainstream squad as well as winning a host of holds at regional events.

Former Holy Trinity swimmer Bainbridge made a splash at the ASA Open Water Championships by winning her age group at Rother Valley Country Park. She is currently on a swimming scholarship at Ellesmere College in Shropshire.

Paralympic star Cashmore returns to defend the title she won last year after more success in the pool.

The swimmer added to her collection of medals at the IPC World Championships in Glasgow, taking silver in the 100m breaststroke as well as relay in the 4x100m medley and bronze in the 4x100m freestyle.

Finally, gifted Baxter College student William Richardson has kicked on.

He started the year in fine style to dominate the under-17s age section to become Midlands Cross Country Champion.

He also qualified for the Commonwealth Youth Games and represented England in Samoa.

The winner will be decided by an online vote, which finishes at midnight on Saturday, January 9.
