IT IS still early in the second half of the season but already the winners of each division in the Kidderminster and District League are looking relatively easy to predict.

In Division One, Bromley A remain unbeaten and are overwhelming favourites to retain their title with an eight-point lead at the top.

They travelled to their nearest rivals Harriers A last week and won 7-3.

For the home side, George Carroll, 16, briefly threatened Steve Horton’s 100 per cent record but was unable to capitalise on his 2-0 advantage and lost in five. Jason Thompson was in superb form for the visitors all night.

Harriers A remain in second but have both Harriers D and Bromley B breathing down their necks.

Harriers D are always difficult to beat while newcomers Bromley B have proved a real handful for many sides, with Jamie Cartwright and James Johnson continuing to clock up the wins.

In Division Two, a single point separates Wordsley B, Harvington A and Wordsley A – but all are a long way behind runaway leaders Droitwich Legion Inn.

Droitwich have good young players in Sam Albrow and Robert Hatherly, who really should be plying their trade in Division One.

Kidderminster table tennis players take a break from league action next week to concentrate on the first of several cup competitions.

The league’s individual championships are spread out over a series of weeks and begin on Monday at Aggborough with the super vets and restricted singles.

Then, on Thursday next week it will be the handicap singles, when players will be handicapped according to their results to date. This is always an enjoyable event with the capacity to throw up a few surprising results.

Then it is back to league action until Monday, March 21 when the open singles and doubles events take place.

The league has also lined up a hard bat tournament for Thursday, March 31 (bats will be provided) and on Tuesday, April 19 it will be the vets singles and doubles.

The team competition finals will all take place on Monday April 18 – again, all at Aggborough. Junior events are still to be arranged.

A selection of individual finals will be decided on finals night which will be on Monday, April 25 at Aggborough Sports and Social Club.

Table tennis has returned to Cookley Village Hall on Thursday afternoons from 5.15pm if any youngsters are looking to take up the game.

There are also coached sessions at Bromley’s excellent venue in Pensnett on Saturday mornings and Wednesday evenings.
