JUNIOR and senior cricketers worked hard off the pitch last weekend to make sure Kidderminster‘s Chester Road club is in first class order for the new season.

Families also joined in the annual NatWest-backed CricketForce, promoted by the English Cricket Board.

With sponsorship nationally from Jewson and locally from Express Tool Hire, players, aged from seven to 67, painted, cleaned, and tidied up the changing rooms, historic pavilion and grounds.

A highlight was the complete repainting of the club’s long room exterior.

Senior league matches start with the Williamson Birmingham League knock out cup on Saturday, April 16 and the club said they welcome new players to their five teams - two Birmingham league sides and three Worcestershire league teams - catering for a range of talent and experience.

Junior matches start on April 24 for teams in every age group, from U9s to U17s, playing in Worcester Cricket Board league and cup competitions.

Craig Wood, junior head coach, said: “After a successful 2015 season and excellent winter training, we are looking forward to a great 2016.

“New players are always welcome whether novices or more experienced. We work hard to try develop individuals to reach their potential and instil in them a lifelong love of the game.”

Two free taster sessions are offered to new juniors and their outdoor training starts at Chester Road next Monday (April 11), from 6pm until 8pm, with qualified and police vetted coaches. Senior nets are at the same time on Thursdays.

Young players also have the chance to trial for district and county squads and older juniors have the opportunity to play senior cricket at the club.
