SAMURAI Judo Club’s Gremlins squad girls Darcie Hancocks and Leah Grosvenor both had excellent results at the Sportif Scottish International Open.

The dynamic duo came up against players from numerous countries including France, Holland, Sweden, Norway, Brazil, Canada, USA and many others.

Grosvenor continued her unbeaten run, which now stretches back to October as she won every contest by maximum points to take the gold medal.

Hancocks, 14, was back in competition for the first time since injuring her shoulder in December.

She started well in her own age band with an excellent win against a French opponent, then took an early high score against the Scottish number one but her lack of match sharpness told as she was edged out.

In the repechage she started with a win before losing to a Scottish rivals.

Hancocks stepped up to the under-20 age section and ensured a silver as she reached the final and lost to a home fighter.

There were also decent efforts from Sophie Deeming-Lane and Lauren Fletcher, up against much more experienced players, whilst Bryony Griffiths had three good wins on her way to a fifth place.

Hancocks was then picked by England for a six-team international match.

The Samurai youngster won her contest against the Irish Republic’s number one by maximum points with some more good groundwork to help her team win 4-2.

England lost 5-1 to France, despite a spirited loss by Hancocks, before Scotland edged out the national side 4-2.
