BEWDLEY slipped to defeat at Burghill in the Worcestershire County League Division One thanks this time to an alarming batting collapse.

At 180-2 Bewdley were well-placed to set an unassailable target, so their eventual total of 215 was particularly disappointing, compounded by their inability to use all of their 50 overs.

Simon Mauger set up this promising position with a flawless century, and was supported by Charlie Eastoe with 39, and Paul Beard with 26.

Bewdley’s middle and lower order were unable to take advantage as they were bowled out for 215.

They bowlers were, as in the previous game, hampered by a wet ball, but Burghill were never really under pressure, and reached 216-5 for victory with 12 overs to spare Bewdley were not helped by the concession of 35 extras.

They go to bottom of the Oldswinford and Stourbridge Social on Saturday (1pm start).
