COOKLEY'S new fast bowler Jack McVey was on song as he tore into the Worcester batting to achieve career best figures of 8-56.

McVey hails from Tamworth New South Wales - the home of country music in Australia – and he certainly called the tune as his side bagged a winning draw against Worcester.

"He produced one of the finest opening bowling displays ever seen with six very capable Worcester batsman all clean-bowled," said skipper Paul Thomas.

Worcester were all out for 150 and the Villagers looked set for the win but the introduction of Jamaica and West Indies left arm spinner Fabian Allen, who took quick wickets in the gloom, ensured the match was evenly poised.

Cookley were 89-5 when a heavy thunderstorm forced the game to be abandoned.

Despite the setback, they moved up one place in Worcestershire League Division One to fourth.

They entertain Pedmore on Saturday (1pm start).

Despite a fine looking batting wicket, Cookley seconds skipper Simon Anderson choose to field and the Avoncroft batsman took full advantage smashing 300-8.

Croft skipper Mark Whitehead struck 132 not out.

In a rain restricted match, Cookley's batsman also enjoyed the friendly surface with Russ Whitehouse hitting a superb 88 and vice captain Ben Quinlan bagging 83 in a winning draw.

All three teams are back in action next Saturday as they look to continue start to the season.
