CLAIRE Cashmore returned from the IPC European Championships in Madeira with three medals and her confidence boosted ahead of the Rio Paralympics.

The Kidderminster swimmer won gold and two bronzes and also set a new personal best, as she increased her level of performance from the British International Para event a fortnight ago.

With the Team GB squad for the Paralympics set to be announced on Monday, she looks on course in her preparations.

Cashmore sliced over a second off her previous time as he set one minute and 10.62 seconds to take bronze in the S9 100-metre butterfly.

On Friday night, she took bronze in the SB8 100m breaststroke, after touching in 1:21.53.

Cashmore then completed the event in style as the women’s 34-point 4x100m medley relay brought the tournament to a storming close when securing the last gold.

Cashmore joined forces with Susie Rodgers, Steph Millward and Harriet Lee to put in an excellent, fine performance to finish in a time of 4:53.15.

She said: “I think I was a little bit nervous.

“As a team we really wanted to show our dominance going into Rio and I think we definitely did that.”
