BEWDLEY bagged their first win of the season in the Worcestershire County League Division One at Oldswinford.
Oldswinford batted first but were unable to come to terms with Bewdley’s varied attack.
Martyn Carr looked in good form after a three-year absence and was rewarded with figures of 3-43.
Andy Platt supported him well, and there were wickets for Jack Mills (3-51) who played through a nasty finger injury after a dropped catch, and Simon Mauger (4-45) who disposed of the dangerous Tom Blunt.
Chasing 164, Paul Beard (52) set the tone by driving the second ball of the innings, for no apparent reason, for a huge six.
He and Mauger put on 106 for the first wicket, and then Charlie Eastoe joined Mauger to knock off the remaining runs.
Victory was secured with 23 overs to spare, and Mauger’s 86 not out came from 84 balls with four fours and two sixes, and some very accomplished running between the wickets.
Bewdley will be hoping to maintain their form at Droitwich on Saturday.
