CLEOBURY Ladies are celebrating after clinching the West Midlands Division One title.

They enjoyed a strong campaign and sealed the title with just three defeats in 14 games.

But they had to recover after suffering a wobble at Wombourne, who boasted a strong home record.

After a tough first set, Wombourne were finding all of Cleobury’s gaps taking the set 25-18.

The second set was much the same with Cleobury finding it hard to find their usual rhythm as they went down 25-21.

With some passionate performances from Becky Brookes, Harriet Snape and winger Lyndsey Potter, Cleobury finally woke up to take the next set 20-25.

Cleobury were back in the match and with some strong defensive play from Beeb Gallagher and Laura Edwards the fourth set was close. but Wombourne grasped the set and match 25-22 to seal a 3-1 win.

Defeat meant Cleobury had to defeat Tettenhall and hope Tamworth slipped up in their final two matches.

After Tamworth experienced mixed results against Telford and WBA, Cleobury needed two sets to win the title.

They took the first set by storm, with some solid serving from Potter, Edwards and Brookes giving Cleobury a comfortable lead.

Brookes took advantage of all hitting abilities with Katherine Howells spiking some fast middle balls.

While Rosie Millichamp regularly found court out on the wing as the first set was won 25-9.
