BEWDLEY recorded a hugely satisfying win over table-topping Colwall in Worcestershire County League Division One.

They won yet another toss and again decided to bat on a pitch which looked likely to take spin from an early stage.

After the loss of an early wicket, Adam Groves and Simon Mauger rebuilt sensibly before Groves was out for a thoughtful 23 at 79-2.

Mauger was then joined by Charlie Eastoe who followed up his century against the same opponents earlier in the season with an excellent 65.

He and Mauger put on 129 for the third wicket, and Mauger (104) completed a splendid century containing 13 fours and a six.

Bewdley now turned a promising situation into something approaching a decisive advantage by taking 60 off the last six overs, with Rob Combes striking the ball to all parts with 39 not out from just 17 balls.

Set a daunting 261 to win Colwall struggled to put together any meaningful partnerships, and all the Bewdley bowlers played their part.

Mauger rounded off a good day by taking two wickets and running out the dangerous Tom Coleman, and there were two wickets also for Jack Mills, Andy Platt and Rob Crane, and one for Lewis Williams who made the initial breakthrough.

From 105-6 Colwall recovered with a partnership of 70 between Ben Butler (91) and Wehan Joubert (43), but Bewdley always seemed in control, and Colwall succumbed quietly to 200 all out.

Buoyed by three successive wins Bewdley host Worcester Nomads on Saturday who have taken over from Colwall at the top of the table.

Meanwhile, the seconds got the better of Colwall for four wickets.

Martin Brewer and Gareth Lewis took three wickets each as Colwall were dismissed 207.

Runs for Matt Cowdery (36), Michael Harris (28), James Rawlings (29), Jonathan Elmer (38) and Luke Cooper (34) guided Bewdley to 208-6.
