KIDDERMINSTER Carolians gave away too much in height and weight to a Camp Hill side who capitalised on a strong start.

Home side KCs conceded early penalties which allowed the visitors to kick for position and after 12 minutes were behind after the pack drove over and loosehead prop Dan O’Grady touched down.

Sloppy play resulted in a yellow card for KC's Mike Humphries after a deliberate knock-on which meant the award of a penalty try, which was converted to put Camp Hill 12-0 up after around 20 minutes.

A blocked KC kick from defence began a move which put Camp Hill's Rob Freeman in for his team's third try after 30 minutes.

KCs responded with their best phase of handling so far but after no advantage was gained play was brought back for an earlier penalty offence.

This gave the hosts with their first real opportunity of the afternoon but the kick at goal was wide.

KCs now looked livelier and six minutes before the break Morgan combined well with fellow centre Rhys Pritchard to get behind Camp Hill and set up a ruck.

The ball was moved right to Jones who celebrated his return to the club and first appearance for several years with a try which reduced the deficit to 17-5.

A penalty put KCs further behind just after the re-start before they got a huge slice of luck when replacement lock Simon Clarke was allowed to gallop away for a try after the referee had missed a blatant forward pass in the build up, the conversion by skipper Chris Pinner cut the arrears to 20-12.

The home side surged back onto the attack from the re-start with a flowing move down the right and Jones offloaded inside to Morgan who handed on to Pritchard.

Although his run to the line was almost halted by a last ditch tackle he just managed to get the ball down and the try was well converted by Pinner to bring KC’s to within one point at 20-19.

KCs were now well on top and looked poised to go on and snatch another unlikely win but midway through the half a misplaced pass went straight to grateful right wing Freeman who ran in unopposed under the posts for a gift wrapped bonus point try, which was converted to leave Kidder requiring two scores.

Momentum swung back to Camp Hill again and from a five metre scrum replacement Stephen Halbert picked up at the back to plunge over and Edwards added the extras.

Full time score: KC’s 19 Camp Hill 34 KC’s host Berkswell & Balsall in the RFU Intermediate Cup on Saturday September 24.
