BEWDLEY Town boss Phil Mullen wants his players to carry their second half performance against Cradley into this Saturday clash at basement boys Gornal.

Town's defensive frailties came to the fore as they quickly found themselves three goals down at home to a resurgent Hammers side last weekend.

However, Mullen's men battled their way back to earn a share of the spoils.

The manager said: "A point is probably a good result after we found ourselves so far behind, but we still had the chances to win it after we'd got level.

"The players showed good character to get back into it and plugged away.

"We have struggled with consistency at the back because of player absences. If there is one area you want consistency it is in defence, so that hasn't helped us.

"A plus is the way we are scoring goal at the moment though."

A brace from Lewis Pountney and a Richard Costello strike made sure Bewdley bagged a West Midlands Premier League point.

They are set to face Littleton in the Smedley Crooke Memorial Charity Cup tonight before turning their attention to Gornal.

Sam Prescott will miss Saturday's game but Rob Orne may return from a groin injury. Callum Martin will also return after missing the Cradley clash.

Meanwhile, Bewdley reserves bagged their first win of the season last weekend.

The game saw the return of goalkeeper Nathan Drew after following serious arm injury suffered playing for the first team in just the second game of the season.
