SIXSHOOTERS Stourport Swifts produced one of their biggest wins of the season when they came out on top of a nine goal thriller at Leicester side St Andrews.

Swifts soared to a 6-3 success at St Andrews but still remain in the relegation zone on goal difference after fellow strugglers Boldmere St Michaels pulled off a shock 3-0 win over Midland League leaders Alvechurch.

Swifts were given a huge helping hand after St Andrews were reduced to 10 men with the game still goalless.

But Swifts boss Mark Phillips insisted: "I thought we were the better side before the sending off took place!

Aaron Lloyd put Swifts ahead from the penalty spot before Jim Henson pressed home the advantage with a first half hat-trick.

That enabled Swifts to establish a 4-1 lead by the break and Phillips revealed: "We warned the players about complacency at half time but they didn't listen and St Andrews soon pulled the score back to 4-3.

"We finally got to grips with the game again and further goals from Alex Perry and Jack Bailey sealed the points, although we should have scored more!

Swifts remain third from bottom on points difference from Boldmere but Phillips claimed: "The results have not reflected the performances recently. Although we could do with a couple of additional faces, I'm happy with the players I have got. I won't be bringing in new players just for the sake of it."

Swifts face a tough festive programme of fixtures beginning with a testing trip to title favourites Westfields on December 27.

That is followed by a home game against Walsall Wood on December 31.

Swifts then travel to Sporting Khalsa on January 2 and Phillips added: "We've some tough games coming up - but I'd rather play them now than at the end of the season."
