BEWDLEY Town found themselves marooned last weekend when their notorious Ribbesford Meadow pitch proved unplayable and forced the postponement of their West Midlands League Premier Division match with Smethwick Rangers.
It was the only Premier Division contest which failed to survive the wet weather.
Club secretary Steve Godfrey said: “We’ve got more chance of growing rice on the pitch than playing football at the moment because the pitch resembles a paddy field.
“We tried to protect the pitch by putting plastic sheeting across, it but it did no good.
“Thankfully we’re quite well up with the fixtures and have only 15 more matches to play.
“But if the weather fails to improve, I can’t see us playing on Saturday when we’re down to entertain Smethwick Rangers.”
“If this wet weather continues and we don’t get a sustained dry spell, we might have to look at playing some of the reserve team fixtures at a different venue - but we’re still some way ahead of that yet!
