BIG hearted Bromyard Town came to Bewdley Town's rescue this week by hosting their West Midlands League Premier Division contest with Black Country Rangers while Ribbesford Meadow remains underwater.

Bromyard were returning a favour after Bewdley helped them out earlier in the season.

Bewdley secretary Steve Godfrey explained: "Bromyard were drawn at home in the FA Vase at the start of the season but couldn't stage the game as Bromyard Gala was taking place on their ground at the same time, so we let them use our pitch instead.

"Bromyard have also offered further use of their ground, especially as they only have one more home game to play this season.

"We've also had offers from both Ludlow Town and Stourport Swifts to stage our games if the bad weather returns, which is very comforting as it means we have options at our disposal."

Unfortunately, Bromyard couldn't provide Bewdley with a victory as they lost out 2-1 to Black Country in a close fought contest which saw both sides reduced to 10 men.

Connor Hadlington fired Black Country ahead but Lewis Pountney replied for Bewdley when he headed home from a corner.

Bewdley then had Dan Flowers sent off after clashing with Black Country's Josh Ellis.

Black Country then bagged a second goal when Lewis Archer converted a Hadlington cross.

Ellis was then dismissed himself after picking up a second yellow card following a tangle with Will Ward.

Despite dominating the latter stages, Bewdley proved unable to repair the damage.

Steve Godfrey added: "There was a huge element of luck about Black Country's winning goal as Archer mis-hit the ball, but in doing so, wrong-footed our goalkeeper Darren Steadman."

Bewdley have no game this Saturday but then host second placed Wolves Sporting Community on Tuesday before travelling to Littletons on Thursday for a Worcester Infirmary Cup game, where the winners will face Studley in the semi-finals.

The Reserves are at home against Tipton Youth this Saturday in a West Midlands League Division Two contest.
