KIDDERMINSTER captain Neil Pinner wants his side to replicate last season's recovery job.

KCC picked up just one win from their first six games during the previous campaign before bouncing back in fine style to bag a second-placed finish.

This season's start has gone the same way with the club failing to record a victory from their first five games.

Their poor run continued last weekend when Pinner's men fell to a seven-wicket defeat to neighbours Ombersley.

However, the skipper is hopeful his team can again enjoy a better run as they head into the 55-over format when they go to Barnt Green this Saturday (noon start).

He said: "We're now looking to recreate what we did last season.

"We would obviously have liked to start much better but now need to bounce back again and have a good next three quarters of the season.

"The 55-over format does give you a little more scope to change things and hopefully our experienced bowlers can have more of a say.

"We just need to make sure we bat well to give them a good total to work with."

Against Ombersley, Kidderminster opted to bat after winning the toss and made a steady start, scoring 46 by the seventh over despite losing their first wicket.

With 30 more runs added, a second wicket fell when Connor Smith (9) was bowled by Freddie Wynn. The score reached 120 when a partnership between Marc Edwards and Andy Kimberlin (19) was ended when Oliver Uffindal bowled Kimberlin. Some good batting produced more runs until Mark Edwards (74) gave Uffindal his second wicket.

George Hatfield had been Edwards’ partner and carried on the good work before Pat Brown (11) was out lbw to Gareth Andrew.

Ombersley looked to be taking control and eventually bowled the hosts out for 237.

Ombersley lost two wickets for 50 runs inside 10 overs. Liam Gwynne (17) and Nick Hammond (13) were bowled by Liam Weston. However, Uday Kaul and Josh Dell took the score up to 237 before Andrew came in to help complete the job late on.

"I think we put on a competitive total thanks to good contributions from Marc Edwards and George Hatfield but we didn't follow that up with our bowling," added Pinner.

"We took an early wicket but they managed to get a good partnership together and take the game away from us."

Pinner, who had to miss the Ombersley clash, is due back this Saturday and will have his options boosted with the return of both Matt Pardoe and Nathan Round.
