KIDDERMINSTER will be looking at making it two wins on the bounce for the first time this season after an impressive all round showing at Walsall.

KCC head to Shrewsbury on Saturday off the back of a pair of improved showings, culminating in a six wicket win – the side’s first victory since the beginning of June.

After winning the toss and electing to field, Kidderminster took the first wicket of Walsall with only 19 runs in the book when Dannyjo Cox (9) was caught by keeper Tom Kimberlin off the bowling of George Scrimshaw.

A recovery saw the score rise to 83, but opener Dan Betty (28) was bowled by Liam Weston. KCC were getting on top and the score had only risen to 90 when Weston struck again, removing Mike Hingley for another duck.

Bruce Thomason was batting well, having reached 71 with ten fours and two sixes, until Matt Pardoe bowled him and Ed Denham (31) was looking in good form before being trapped LBW by skipper Neil Pinner.

Pardoe bowled very well with figures of 4-41, and excellent bowling by Weston (3-35) set the pace.

In the second half, Kidderminster scored 80 runs off the first 15 overs, but on 81 they lost their first wicket when teenager Sam Beadsworth (28) – who showed great promise with a handful of fours – was out to Ed Denham.

Walsall were not prepared to lie down and took two more wickets, conceding only 15 runs. Opener Pardoe (53) hit seven fours and two sixes before being caught by Middleton. The same pair saw the departure of George Hatfield for a duck.

Kidderminster made a good recovery and reached 204 after the fourth wicket fell with a good partnership between Pinner (68) and Smith (47).

Following the win, Pinner was full of praise for his improving side, who he expects to keep up the momentum going into next weekend.

“We knew with one or two per cent improvement from all the team that we would be able to get the result we wanted and that was the case,” he said. “We didn’t bowl particularly well at the start and they were going good with the bat, but Liam Weston came in and had a great spell.

“Myself and Matt Pardoe were then able to come in off the back and pick up some wickets.

“We have made a couple of changes to the side and being able to bring Matt Pardoe back in has really helped us and we have Nathan Allen coming back for the rest of the season.

“Hopefully we can keep our form going but Shrewsbury are a really strong side. They might have lost their last couple of games, but we are expecting a tough match.”

KCC’s second XI also played against Walsall this weekend, but unlike the firsts were defeated by 104 runs.

Walsall scored 201-7 from their 50 overs, with Gomez Vincent taking 3-50 and Chris Mills 2-25. Kidderminster could only muster 97 all out in their chase, Rob Cross top scoring with 25 and 14 year old Joe Miszkowski making 23.

Kidderminster thirds were also defeated as they went down by five wickets to Hallow. Batting first, Kidderminster were bowled out for 164, Aaron Dickens top scoring with 48. Despite Rob Connor taking 2-42 and Josh Tidmarsh 2-23, Hallow chased down the target in 40 overs for the loss of 5 wickets.

The fourth XI claimed 20 points due to Hallow’s 2nd XI conceding the game on Saturday.

Despite a good start for the Sunday team, with openers Sam Beadsworth and George Hatfield both scoring 60 and a 55 for Jack Beadsworth, they lost wickets at regular intervals to finish 218 all out.

Barnards Green chased the target down for the loss of seven wickets, with Jack Beadsworth and Rob Connor the pick of the bowlers taking two wickets each.
