AFTER a positive start despite the recent poor weather the Worcestershire League Division One to Four first XI programme was decimated by the weather this week.

Out of the twenty-four matches scheduled only four reached their conclusions, the other twenty were abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Every match in Division One first XI was abandoned, a total washout. This leaves Stourport-on Severn CC and Worcester Nomads CC level at the top on twenty-nine points.

In Division Two first XI, Belbroughton made it two wins out of two as they dodged the weather at Hackmans Gate Lane, won the toss and bowled bottom of the table Bartestree out for a meagre 87 before making light work of the total to gain a twenty point win.

In the only other match played in the division Himbleton snatched a winning draw in what must have been an excellent game of cricket at Enville Hall.

After winning the toss in a match reduced to sixty overs Enville inserted visitors Himbleton in what must have been fairly bowler friendly conditions.

However, Himbleton's middle order batsman Sean Jenkins was having none of it as he smashed an excellent undefeated 90 to help set a challenging target of 183 for the home side to chase in their thirty overs.

In response, Enville lost their first four wickets for just over eighty runs before Mitch Jones (50*) joined Spencer Mann (58*) at the crease.

The pair then resurrected the victory charge but just ran out of time at the end and couldn’t quite seal victory as their ninety-seven run partnership left them just one run short of the visitors first innings total off their thirty overs.

The four other matches in the division were abandoned.

As in Division One first XI, Division Three first XI saw all six matches lost to the weather without a ball being bowled.

This means Alvechurch & Hopwood, Harborne and Rushwick share top spot on twenty-nine points followed closely by Avoncroft in fourth on twenty-five.

In Division Four first XI Stourbridge grabbed an exciting victory against Claverley on the road in a rain reduced eighty over game.

After winning the toss the visitors dismissed the home side for 120 in the thirty fifth over which gave them an extra five overs to chase down the total.

The extra overs proved to be crucial as the visitors crawled over the winning line in the forty first over to win by just one wicket in what must have been a tense finish.

This victory shoots Stourbridge up to third in the table five points behind joint table toppers Halesowen and Kidderminster who along with Alveley, Astwood Bank, Hallow Taverners, Romsley & Hunnington, West Malvern and Stourport were all washed out.

In the other match played in the division a solid first innings batting performance by Tenbury Wells in a rain reduced forty over game at Himley saw them post a challenging 173-4 in their allotted twenty overs.

The home side were never really in the hunt despite a resolute 58 from keeper/batsman Oliver Baker and eventually fell eleven runs short of the losing draw total on 119-6 which gave Tenbury Wells a maximum point winning draw.
