KIDDERMINSTER got their push for a Birmingham and District Premier League return off to a winning start.

KCC secured a five-wicket win over Bridgnorth last Saturday as they quickly adapted to life in Division One following last season's relegation.

New addition Ben Twohig claimed a five-wicket haul as the home side were bowled out for just 103 by the 36th over.

Connor Smith then hit an unbeaten 40 to help his side over the line.

Captain Neil Pinner said: "It was really pleasing to get off to a good start.

"The season was put back a week but we didn't let that affect us and did really well.

"The plan is to try and bounce straight back but we know that won't be an easy task. This is a tough league and we'll have to be at our best.

"We were one of only two games to complete at the weekend so it gives us a bit of a kick-start that we can look to build on.

"Myself and a few others haven't played in this league before so there will be a lot of unknowns and a lot of different challenges."

Bridgnorth opened steadily against the pace of Pat Brown and Connor Smith.

David Laird (15) was caught by Brown of the bowling of Liam Weston. A second wicket then fell with the score on 43 and a third on the same total.

Karl Quiney (13) fell to a catch by skipper Pinner from the bowling of Weston before Tom Weston (0) was caught behind by keeper Tom Kimberlin, giving Liam Weston his second wicket.

The next batsman to depart was Ryan Lockley (3) who was caught by Twohig, bowled Barney Morgan.

Another 32 runs had been scored before the fifth wicket fell. David Exall (20) was trapped leg before as Twohig came to the party.

The Worcestershire prospect bagged the next four wickets to leave the host in trouble.

Kidderminster did not find conditions too hard despite losing opener Shameer Ahmed (2). They added 34 runs for the second wicket when Twohig (23) was caught off the bowling of Quiney.

Pinner (1), opener Andy Kimberlin (5) and Richard Kimberlin (11) followed.

Smith stood strong and guided his side home along with Liam Weston (11 not out).

"It wasn't an easy wicket and we were 50-5 at one stage so we did well to bounce back from that and get over the line," added Pinner.

"Ben Twohig is one of our new arrivals this season so it's good to see him get off to a good start as well."

KCC travel to Barnards Green next Saturday (noon start). They will be boosted by the availability of Matt Pardoe.
