8:00am Friday 4th May 2012 in Local
WYRE Forest CRC pair Andy Convery and David Briggs braved Sunday’s atrocious weather to race in the latest round of the Midland SPOCO time-trial event in Great Witley.
The entry of 133 riders had been reduced to 63 but Convery and Briggs coped well with the conditions, finishing 11th and 24th respectively with times of two hours 2.24 minutes and 2.14.34 for the hilly 39 miles.
In Wyre Forest’s LVRC road race near Lower Broadheath, John Clarke was the club’s highest finisher with a creditable fourth place in the EFG race, while David Prior and Ken Bradbury finished in the chasing bunch.
In the CD race, Mike Hopkins was unable to match the sprinting speed of the winner and finished in the bunch.
The midweek time-trial championship saw Paul Darby seal first win from Dave Wood and Clive Heath.
Midweek championship results: Paul Darby 24.20; Dave Wood 24.59; Clive Heath 25.27; Jason Lloyd 25.30; James Plant 25.57; Jack Coombe 26.10; Andy James 26.44 Dave Brown 27.19; Ken Bradbury 29.16.
