KIDDERMINSTER and Stourport AC member Jacqui Phillips experienced her biggest success yet by winning gold at the European Triathlon Championships in Israel.

Phillips won her 45 to 49 age group and her time ensured she was named as top women’s veteran overall.

She had to tackle a 750-metre open water swim in the Red Sea, 25 km bike ride as well as a 5km run near the city of Eilat but took full advantage of favourable weather conditions to dominate.

Phillips also led by example as she captained the Great Britain squad’s veterans.

Husband Mark Phillips said: “This is the biggest event Jacqui has won and she’s delighted to have done so well.

“It’s a huge achievement and all her hard work has paid off.”

She is also a coach at TRikS (Triathlon Kidderminster and Stourport), which is spearheading introducing more women into the sport.

Phillips will be hoping to book a place at the World Championships at the end of the month, when she takes part in the nationals and will also compete in the World Duathlon Championships in France.
