AFC Wulfrunians 4, Stourport Swifts 1 (aet)

Ten-man Swifts bowed out of the FA Cup, losing out in extra time to fellow Midland Alliance outfit AFC Wulfrunians.

The visitors had defender Jamie Hyde sent off early in the second half and that proved costly as Stourport ran out of steam in the latter stages.

Swifts had the better of the opening half with Kevin Spencer crashing an effort against the crossbar on the half-hour after letting fly from inside the area.

On the stroke of half-time, John Griffin looked to have broken the deadlock with a shot that Wulfs keeper Danny Tipton could only get a hand on but the ball rolled against the post.

Hyde’s red card came just seven minutes into the second half when he was considered to be the last man when he fouled home striker Craig Gregg even though the offence was outside the area.

The controversy continued two minutes later when Spencer had a goal chalked off for offside.

But Swifts continued to look the better side and took the lead on 64 minutes when substitute Calvin Dinsley scored an amazing 30-yard effort after picking up a Griffin pass.

Scott Stevenson levelled the scores ten minutes from time, spotting keeper Haydn Whitcombe off his line, and a fine save from Tipton from Griffin forced the tie into extra time.

Two minutes into the extra period and Wulfrunians led for the first time. There was a misunderstanding between defender Jordan Jones and keeper Whitcombe and Jones headed into his own net.

Further goals followed for the home side as they made their extra man count, Gregg adding the third on the stroke of half-time with Nathan Rose-Laing completing the scoring on 112 minutes.
