Stourport Swifts 0, Walsall Wood 2

Stourport slumped to a disappointing home defeat against a Walsall Wood side with just one win to their name prior to this Walshes Meadow clash.

And to add insult to injury, both goals were own goals scored by Swifts defender Ashley Walker, on loan from Worcester City.

Rod Brown’s side had looked the more likely to break the deadlock in the first half. Jamie Willetts headed just over the target on five minutes with Paul Hurrell being denied by a good save ten minutes before the break.

The second half started in a similar fashion with John Griffin missing a chance to put Stourport ahead.

The deadlock was finally broken on 55 minutes when Walker looked to clear the ball only to miscue his kick into his own net.

Walker was on the scoresheet again 15 minutes from time when a Simon Fitter clearance cannoned off the defender and flew into the Swifts’ goal.

The goals seem to take any fight out of the home side with all the energy and urgency coming from their lowly visitors as they eased to the points.
