HIGHY-Rated goalkeeper Lewis Solly is set to make his debut for Stourport Swifts on Saturday in their much-anticapated FA Vase tie with Brocton.

The 29-year-old stopper spent most of his career with Stourbridge featuring in their two memorable FA Cup runs before leaving for Rushall Olympic in the summer. He goes straight into the side in place of youngster Haydn Whitcombe.

Boss Rod Brown is a big fan of Solly’s but also hopes Whitcombe will remian with the club to gain from the former Glassboy’s man’s wealth of knowledge.

“When I learned Lewis was available I signed him. He’s very experienced and a leader and will go straight into the side.

I like Haydn a lot as a keeper but he’s a young lad who’s not been under pressure and has made one or two basic mistakes. He could learn a lot from Lewis.”

Brown said he has also put in seven days for another player he knows well, Alvechurch’s strong mddfielder Karl Fellows.

“I had Karl with me at Bromsgrove as a youngster and we could do with that sort of physcial presence.

“We have really been missing the likes of our experienced players Kevin Spencer, Lewis Pountney and Jamie Hyde although Chris Morrision has chipped in with six goals in five games “ Restoring morale will be a key factor against the Midland Combination leaders Brocton after Swifts tumbled to a shock 2-1 defeat at struggling Continental Star last weekend.

Brown said: “We had six clear chances and only made the keeper make one save, including an open goal, and then we conceded a sloppy goal near the end.

“Brocton are a good side who have only lost something like one game in their 14 so it’s a big ask for us but If we play to our expectations I think we will be too strong for them. We will also be boosted by having James Lemon back with us after featuring for Worcester City last weekend.

“It’s a big game for us. We have been inconsistent this season and that is something to keep working on.

“We have good spirit in the dressing room but though everyone works hard out on the pitch perhaps collectively we need to improve that. It was a disappointing result for us last weekend but we had a good night out with the lads afterwards and I feel that will have helped restore some confidence.”

Swifts are at home to Black Country Rangers on Tuesday in the JW Cup provided there is an outright result on Saturday.
