SWIFTS boss Rod Brown has hailed the impact of experienced keeper Lewis Solly.

The former Stourbridge shot-stopper has played the last few games for Stourport and is enjoying his football again after a spell at Rushall Olympic.

Swifts have certainly picked up in recent weeks with Saturday’s 2-1 win over Coventry Sphinx in the Midland Alliance and Tuesday night’s 1-0 victory over Old Wulfrunians in the Polymac League Cup making it three wins in a row.

“Lewis is enjoying his football and he wants to stay with us,” said Brown.

“I’ve changed the team around in the last few weeks and added a some older headers like Lewis and Karl Fellows and they’ve made a difference.”

With Solly settling in well, rookie custodian Haydn Whitcomb is set for a short spell on loan at Littleton from this weekend.

The manager added: “I like Haydn, he’s an excellent young keeper and I think he can learn a lot off Lewis.

“He’s going on loan but I want to stress he’s someone I rate highly and have in my plans.”

Brown has been pleased with the performances in the last few weeks.

Goals for Calvin Dinsley and new addition Josh Thompson, who was at Crewe’s youth academy, sealed a good win over Coventry on Saturday.

The pacey Thompson scored again in mid-week as Stourport recorded a fine win over Wulfs.

The manager said: “We’ve had a slow start to the season and even when we were winning games I didn’t think we were playing well.

“But the last two or three performances have been pleasing.”

Lewis Pountey (ankle) and Kevin Spencer (knee) remain sidelined for Saturday’s game at struggling Gornal Athletic (3pm ko).

James Lemon is available again after playing for Worcester City in the FA Youth Cup in midweek.

Swifts are also hoping to secure the services of former Kidderminster Harriers defender Michael Briscoe, who is on loan at Causeway United from Calor Southern League Premier Division side Stourbridge.
