ROD Brown believes Stourport Swifts can secure a top four finish in the Midland Alliance.

The Walshes Meadow outfit ended Tipton Town’s nine-game unbeaten run on Saturday thanks to goals from Lewis Pountney and Jordan Jones.

Swifts are now 11th in the table but with 14 matches left, the manager is confident a storming end to the campaign would secure a high finish.

He said: “I think we can finish fourth, which would be an achievement considering how we started the season.

“There is a lot of football to be played and we’re a good side when we work hard.

“I also think we’ll have a big say on the outcome of the championship.”

Stourport face a league double header over the next week against struggling Rocester.

They go to Hillsfield on Saturday (3pm kick-off) and then welcome them back to Worcestershire on Tuesday night (7.45pm kick-off).

Brown added: “It’s better to play away on the Saturday because of the travelling.

“These games are an opportunity to build on our recent good results.”

Against Tipton, Stourport made it five wins in seven matches on Saturday.

They started in impressive fashion with top scorer Jon Griffin almost breaking the deadlock inside two minutes but failed to find the net after rounding visiting stopper James Pemberton.

The home side continued to press with Chris Morrison just unable to connect with a fine Jones centre on 10 minutes before Jamie Willets headed straight at Pemberton midway through the first-half.

The hosts deservedly took the lead three minutes after the break, Calvin Dinsley’s corner picking out Pountney who thumped in a header for his second in three games.

Danny Ashton curled an effort wide for Town who arrived on the back of an impressive unbeaten run.

Stourport doubled their advantage on 65 minutes, when Jones finished off a lovely move.
