STOURPORT Swifts are hoping striker Lewis Pountney will recover from injury in time for tomorrow’s home clash against struggling relegation battling Gornal Athletic.

The striker needed stitches in his knee after picking up a knock in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Heath Hayes.

Manager Rod Brown is keen to get the hitman back as soon as possible because of his team’s profligacy in front of goal.

Jordan Jones had bagged a leveller at the weekend, while Gary Walker had fired home a 30-yard effort in Tuesday night’s 2-1 loss to Highgate United.

But Michael Briscoe’s poor header allowed top scorer Lei Brown to score bag the winner for United.

Brown said: “We’re a bit like Arsenal," joked Brown.

"We move the ball really well and can pass it around with some lovely passing, but in the final third we’re lacking something.

“Highgate had two chances; and one was a great long-range effort and the other was down to an error by Michael Briscoe, who has been excellent for us.

“I can’t hammer the players because we are creating lots of chances but only taking 20 per cent of them.

“ I’ve told the lads to keep their heads up because they are doing a lot right.

“Lewis is supposed to have his stitches out on Friday and he’s not supposed to be available until Monday, but we shall see.”

Gornal have improved dramatically since Andy Wytton took the reins and have notched up some impressive wins in their late bid to escape relegation and will prove a tough test in Stourport’s final home game of the season (3.07pm ko).

Swifts then go to Boldmere Athletic on Tuesday (7.45pm ko).
