Stourport’s season finished on a dismal note, losing 2-0 at Highgate and having influential striker Lewis Pountney injured inside two minutes.

And to make matters worse, Highgate’s vital second goal came from a former Swifts player, Joe Adams.

John Griffin squandered an early chance for the visitors while Adams went close for the home side with a free-kick that Michael Briscoe headed clear.

On 28 minutes, a good run from Leon Kandekore took him clear before laying the ball off to Griffin but the striker failed to trouble Highgate keeper Chris Jay.

That miss proved costly when, four minutes later, the Solihull side opened the scoring. Adams was involved, sending a free-kick into the area and Nathan Edgington provided the finishing touch.

Any hopes of Swifts hitting back in the second half were dented when Adams doubled the lead on 53 minutes, sending the ball beyond stand-in keeper Paul Hurrell.

Stourport’s makeshift stopper did deny Highgate a third on the hour, his diving save keeping out an Edgington strike before Luke Morris put an effort over at the other end.

The closing stages saw Rod Brown’s side have the better of the ball and were unlucky not to snatch a consolation.

With six minutes remaining, Jordan Jones’ cross picked out Calvin Dinsley but his powerful shot was directed straight at the Highgate keeper.

And even when Jamie Willets finally found the net moments later, the effort was ruled out for offside.
